Changing the Game

How can we become more dynamic Catholics?
That's the question Matthew Kelly is working to answering. I had the privileged to hear him speak at the LA Religious Education Congress where he presented an idea of "Finding Catholic Game Changers" to help us to become the best versions of ourselves.
Here are some key quotes and questions I took from the talk:

"Our mission as Catholic's is to transform the World."
"We cannot allow our culture to set the rules for engagement."
"What are we doing to inspire Catholics?"
"We need to be counter cultural."
"There is nothing more attractive then holiness."

Matthew then challenged each of us to pick one game changer for our lives to help us become a more dynamic Catholic. Some of his ideas were: spending more time reading the bible; go to confession often; attend mass more then just on Sunday and when you do attend, really attend and be present; and build a routine of prayer.

I've heard talks by Matthew Kelly before and again he shared the use of a mass journal. It's a great idea I'd like to put into practice. You pray before mass and ask God to show you one way in this mass that you can be a better version of yourself. Then listen throughout mass, not just during the homily, your answer could be in a prayer petition, the readings, a song,  only God knows. Once he reveals his answer you write it in your journal. In fact you can receive a free journal (you do have to pay for shipping) on his website http://www.dynamiccatholic.com/. You can always find small journals in the dollar bin at Michael's or Target also and with everyone having a smart phone there is probably a journal app you can download.

The game changers I decide on was to attend mass more and build a routine of prayer. Yes I know he told us to choose one but I really wanted to work on both. Before I had Alexa I attended mass everyday, when she was a newborn I still made it frequently but as she got older it was much harder to keep her quite during daily mass and I refused to go to the cry room that meant I was defeated. Because of this I was only attending mass on the two days she was a daycare. I could really feel a difference when I wasn't starting my day with mass and I didn't like it. Now I'm making an effort to attend everyday and I'm proud to say I'm actually doing a good job. I've realized that having to use the cry room doesn't mean I'm a failure at controlling my daughter to mass. She actually does really well in the cry room. Who knew?
