Our One Word - 4 Months Later

When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, 'Oh yes - I already have everything that I really need.'
Dalai Lama

Wise words from Dalai Lama and for the last four months hard words for us to live by.
When Jim first suggested this as our word, I think we were looking to find contentment in our relationships with each other. Mainly we needed to stop nagging each other about housework, cooking, job schedules, homework, etc. We have been doing very successful in having this word define how we treat each other. Our struggle has been in using our word as our lens for other areas of our life.

As I ponder this statement, I don't think we want more, more and more. Nothing we seem to be discontent about involves having more "things" in our life. On the contrary we are actually discontent with the amount of  stuff that is cluttering our home and minds. What we want more of is time together, better health practices for Jim and I and a healthy diet for the entire family.

After four months we have decided this, God gave us this word not as a reminder to always be content but as a goal for us to achieve as we continue through 2014.  It is clear this word will continue to challenge us, disappoint us, and bring us great joy when we finally achieve it. Please keep us in your prayers.

Until next time,
Karri
